Get-e appoints travel tech expert Thanh Luu to develop TMC offering

May 28, 2021

Ground transportation expert Get-e has recently appointed Thanh Luu to the role of global sales manager for travel. Based at the company’s Amsterdam head office, Thanh will be responsible for bolstering Get-e’s go-to strategy for the entire travel ecosystem, including hotels, travel management companies (TMC), destination management companies (DMC), and cruise liners. We caught up with her to find out what plans she has for her role.

Q: What areas of the travel industry are you passionate about?

For me, technology and SaaS are the most exciting recent developments in the travel sector. Covid was a wake-up call for digitalisation in the travel industry. Infrastructure was not as agile as it needed to be, and therefore there is an increased desire to ‘go digital’. More than ever, people want processes to be as seamless and contactless as possible and there is a greater need for companies to ensure duty of care to their clients, travel partners, and business travelers.  Get-e is crucial to every part of this so it’s an exciting time to join the company.

Q: What will you be doing in your new role?

First of all, I think it’s important to understand how the Covid pandemic has shifted operations and objectives for companies. The travel industry is still having to constantly adapt, and things are unlikely to return to any form of normality for some time yet so it’s important for us to recognise this. Get-e is an essential part of their recovery from the pandemic, and I want to help travel organisations to scale their business accordingly.

I’m also looking forward to networking again, ideally in person!

Q: How is the travel industry adopting new technology?

The travel industry has always lagged behind others when it comes to technology, so everyone is now seriously looking at how they can use it to transform the way they operate. More than ever, they want centralisation and consolidation of systems and with everything else going on, companies are prioritising what they think will have the most beneficial impact on their organisation.

Q: When do you think people will be flying again?

With regards to corporate travel, I think a lot of it depends on government regulations and guidance but also standardisation across countries – with a vaccine passport for example. Once this is in place, corporations will be able to decide their own travel policies and then people will feel more confident to do so. That is what a lot of TMCs are waiting for but there is definitely pent-up demand, especially for leisure and domestic travel.
